The Vinhão grape variety is the most recognized red grape in the region, and the most famous Vinhos Verdes Tintos come from this grape, especially in the Lima, Vez and Tâmega valleys.

The quality of Barcos Wines’ various Vinhão wines comes from grapes of this variety born from old vines between Ponte da Barca and Arcos de Valdevez, planted some distance from the Atlantic Ocean and therefore more protected from the cool, damp winds, allowing the grapes to ripen more intensely and complexly.

The wines are thus softer, rounder and fruitier (very ripe red fruits) than other reds from the more Atlantic region.
