Add your curiosity to our boldness
It’s an unexpected, even unusual journey! If you’re wondering how Barcos Wines e Arcos de Valdevez (APDBAV) traveled from Vinhão to Sauvignon Blanc (read in Portuguese “só vinhão”), add your curiosity to our boldness and find out more about these two grape varieties, which combine the tradition and innovation that command our philosophy of being in this exciting world of wines.
From the grapes, which pass through the careful hands of our associates, to the violet stain on the tablecloth, this grape variety, genuinely from Minho, produces wines with an intense garnet red color, a vinous aroma, where wild fruits (blackberry and raspberry) stand out, and an equally vinous and full-bodied taste.[1]
APDBAV’s history has long gone hand in hand with Vinhão, as it is one of our most genuine products and one of the most well-known on the national market. Its aromatic power, refreshing acidity and exuberant color reflect the personality of “our” Vinho Verde Tinto Vinhão Premium. This wine contains within it the wisdom of the ancestral production of traditional wines, with the representative identity of the region in which we find ourselves.
The Sparkling Vinhão Bruto represents the potentiation of the tranquil wine, where we seek to enhance the aromatic purity of the wild fruits, combined with the crunchy side of the mouth conferred by the “bubbles” of the sparkling wine. The range of wines from this variety also includes a Vinhão Reserva, dedicated to the palates of those who appreciate softer, more alcoholic wines. These two products are the result of change, knowledge and innovation; they give life to new profiles to meet the needs of different consumers and markets.
In this continuous and avant-garde quest for improvement, we have taken the risk of launching a new reference that rhymes with Vinhão, Sauvignon Blanc. A world-famous grape variety, democratized by French wines from Bordeaux and the Loire and, in recent years, by wines from Chile and New Zealand.
The winery, proudly Cooperative and facing the world, today presents a grape variety that is foreign to its environment: to its terroir; recognized for its fresh character, vegetal aroma, asparagus and green apple, but with structure and persistence. When planted in the Vinho Verde region, the grape variety is enriched with the minerality of the granite soils, the freshness and vitality of the Atlantic influence, giving birth to an unprecedented and unique product in the world, SAUVIGNON BLANC APDB.
The bottle is adorned with an illustration depicting the love between Portugal (the origin of the wine) and France (the origin of the grape variety), on a journey to the charms of the Louvre Museum and the charismatic and shy Mona Lisa.
We are committed to the production of all our wines, from the most traditional to the most irreverent, from those intended to accompany a good typical Portuguese dish to those enjoyed with a splash of pool in the glass. We want to offer you products of excellence that represent the exceptionality of the regional and national heritage that surrounds us.
The desire to pay homage to the traditional, through sustainable innovation, is part of our lifelong commitment, because “Origin Counts”.
