Terroir

A unique territory: the Lima sub-region.

The Origins matters

Thanks to the irregular landscape of this region, we are able to create wines like no other.
Here and there, we find vineyards planted in microclimates unique to the area of Ponte da Barca and Arcos de Valdevez.
All of this, combined with the soils.

Loureiro and Vinhão

In this sub-region, where the white Loureiro grape and the red Vinhão grape reach their full expression, Vinho Verde wines take on unique characteristics and truly stand out.
The white Vinho Verdes produced here are highly aromatic, elegant, and mineral.
The red Vinho Verdes show greater potential in this sub-region due to the climatic conditions that influence their maturation.

The Vinho Verdes produced here are notably aromatic, elegant, and mineral.

River Lima Valley

The Lima River Valley is the prime territory for the production of Vinho Verde wines from the Loureiro grape and is located between the municipalities of Arcos de Valdevez and Ponte da Barca.
This area is heavily influenced by the Atlantic sea winds, due to its proximity to the ocean (about 40 km), and features granite-based, fertile soils with high levels of rainfall during the growing season.

The high temperatures, combined with significant humidity levels, favour the grape ripening period, resulting in fruity wines with moderate alcohol content, delicate aromas, minerality, and freshness.
The natural conditions of this valley are ideal for producing excellent white Vinho Verde wines, as well as sparkling wines and Vinho Verde brandies.

Vez River Valley

Crossed by the Vez River, a tributary of the Lima River, it originates in the Soajo mountain range, at around 1,250 metres of altitude, within the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
Located in Arcos de Valdevez, this valley has fertile, granite-based soils, giving the wines unique characteristics, namely freshness and aromatic components resulting from high-altitude ripening and the natural mountain protection from Atlantic sea winds.

Grape varieties such as Alvarinho, Trajadura, Arinto, and Espadeiro stand out in this valley.
The wines produced from these varieties are fresher, more elegant, well-balanced, and have good structure.
A greater thermal amplitude during ripening — with hot days and cool, dry nights, especially in the final stage of grape maturation — is fundamental for colour stabilization, delaying oxidation, and enhancing freshness and acidity.

Vade River Valley

The Vade River rises in the municipality of Vila Verde and flows through much of the territory of Ponte da Barca, standing out for being a narrow valley with dense vegetation.
It is in this granite-based, humid valley, with high thermal amplitude, that excellent conditions are created for producing grapes with unique characteristics, especially for the red varieties Vinhão and Borraçal.

Temperatures are higher and there is less air circulation, providing excellent conditions for achieving greater ripeness, giving the red wines a deeper colour, good alcohol content, and excellent acidity.
